Transportation Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for carrier procurement, compliance, and management in addition to load planning, track and trace, optimization (mode, route, carrier, load), freight audit and payment and reporting and analytics. Works with the Transportation Control Tower management team responsible for more than $50m in annual revenues and associated freight spend, transportation management services and technology.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transportation Strategy- Contribute to the development of the transportation strategy and translate it into regional long, medium and short term implementation plans, in alignment with the global business and strategic imperatives. Develop new procedures and system enhancements as needed to optimize work processes and efficiency.  Identify synergies with other transportation set ups across clients to realize cost reductions.
  • Process Improvement- Design and continuously improve standard transportation processes, transportation KPIs (Transportation Dashboard), adapt these processes and KPIs to the concrete needs (SLAs) of the customers in order to deliver state of the art transportation solutions resulting in customer satisfaction and profitable service delivery. Coordinate and monitor the transportation processes implemented by the various Operations departments through KPIs. 
  • Transportation Planning - Create and monitor processes for client shipments and lead a world class customer service-oriented support team.  Design and implement transportation sourcing and capacity management strategies across multiple customers ensuring capacity, service and market price objectives are met.
  • Business Development- Work on new client proposals, submit new bids with a cost estimate for specific projects that include headcount costs, licensing requirements from IT and cost implications. Contribute to the business development process by providing professional transportation management advice / specialist support, including the development of customer specific  transportation solutions in order to successfully close the business development process.
  • Budget and Audit- Track monthly metrics. Identify cost saving opportunities, prepare the annual transportation budget, monitor performance and initiate corrective actions in case of deviation vs. planned budget. Address any payment enquiries escalated by team analysts.
  • Procurement Process- Design and manage the region wide standardized procurement process for transportation services resulting in optimal price-quality ratio. Negotiate contracts and pricing with carriers in a consistent manner and in line with purchasing business practices. Establish selection criteria, evaluate and drive accountability with carriers on cost and service commitments.
  • Reporting- Ensure processes are documented, standardized and reflected in reporting.
  • Commercial escalation point for unresolved, recurring carrier performance issues.
  • Liaise with Neovia legal services on contractual and insurance related items.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education/Certifications – Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Operations, Logistics or related field
  • Work Experience – 5 years of work experience in logistics or transportation management at OEM or within industrial production. Previous experience in managing budgets and working with transportation management systems and procurement management. 
  • Strong customer focus, good leadership, communication, and analytical skills 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is primarily sedentary. Sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting item weighing up to 15 pounds.
