Title:  Transportation Planner

JOB SUMMARY

The primary function is to support in the coordination and management of shipments. This includes the collection and input of shipment data, tracking and tracing, inputting changes and updates, communicating with internal customers and strategic partners.  Develop and implement transportation plans and projects to ensure the efficient and safe movement of goods.  Cover any claims required for clients.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inbound / Outbound pipeline coordination and prepares and submits documentation.
  • Partner with the transportation analysts on the carrier data, KPI's and service improvement plans.  
  • Assists in the identification of transportation issues/delays and resolving them quickly.
  • Facilitates billing through data collection and input.
  • Assists in the development of continuous improvement and high-quality service. In conjunction with Transportation Manager, develops, implements, and tracks on-time delivery metrics.
  • Manage the claims process and loss mitigation associated with transportation of our Customers product.
  • Freight, Audit, Pay.  Audits and approves (within pre-established authorization limits) invoice payments for Transportation.
  • Completes additional assignments as required by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and related experience in the relevant field.
  • Must have excellent quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to translate analytical skills into high-level analysis.
  • Proficiency in Excel is required. ERP experience is desirable (SAP preferred). Must be comfortable working with computers and have the ability to learn new software.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to communicate well across all levels of the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to with both internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to make decisions independently and recommend viable solutions to various problems and issues.
  • Must have the ability to handle a heavy workload and be able to work under pressure while handling frequent changes in direction, without losing focus. Must be willing to work overtime as necessary to complete a job.
  • Must be willing and able to learn and acquire new skills and abilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is primarily sedentary. Sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting item weighing up to 15 pounds.

ADDITIONAL INFO

  • Strong Decision Making skills including:
    • Must be able to identify and bring to the table decisions on carriers and services based on contractual need of the client
    • Analyze data and make decisions based on Key Performance Indicator initiatives and scheduling
  • Key decision making abilities for Freight Bill Audit and Pay Services:
    • Review and approve invoices
    • Provide direction on payments to Accounts Payable
    • Communicate discrepancies in invoicing with vendors
